Community Economic Development

Community Futures Mt. Waddington contributes significantly to economic development on the North Island. Over its 20+ years CFMW has made loans totaling over $15 million, which in turn have created or maintained over 2000 jobs in the region.

CFMW has also funneled millions of dollars from the federal government into projects in the region.  Projects like the North Coast Trail, Mt. Cain, the Quatse Salmon Centre, the Alert Bay Boardwalk and countless other community-based initiatives have been made possible, in part, through CFMW administered programs.

Today CFMW works closely with the region’s municipal governments, the Regional District and North Island and Coastal First Nations, in addressing economic and labour market challenges.

Community Futures is also proud to be forging stronger links with School District #85 and North Island College as we work together to prepare the next generation of community leaders, workers and entrepreneurs!

We provide community economic development services such as:

  • Strategic planning assistance
  • Project coordination
  • Promoting entrepreneurship
