“Transforming into greatness of being” – Martial Arts for all ages
Andrew Hory and Jeanne Alley opened the Raincoast Martial Arts studio on January 1st 2014. Andrew had grown up on the North Island, and had spent most of his life here, and they have both lived in Coal Harbour for the past 11 years.
When asked why they started this business, both of them replied with “passion!”
Raincoast Martial Arts focuses on two styles of martial arts, Aikido and Modern Arnis, which is based on a traditional Filipino martial arts system. They have different classes for all ages. For Aikido they instruct people in groups based on age. The age groups are 4-5, 6-8, 9-14, and 15+. For Modern Arnis they instruct people aged nine and up. “It’s important to understand that martial arts aren’t solely meant for kids, although it is great for kids, people of any age can love it and learn from it. We want to grow our adult classes and get people passionate” says Andrew.
“The local community has been very supportive, and that’s been growing over time” says Jeanne.
One of their students commented “Andrew and Jeanne are always very humble, but they are some of the best instructors I’ve ever had, and the North Island is lucky to have them!”
“Without the assistance that Community Futures provided, we probably wouldn’t have opened” says Andrew.
“We’re here, we’re open, and we’d love to see you!” You can get in touch with Raincoast Martial Arts at 250-949-0627.
